Pace and physicality

This tour has a relaxed to moderate pace and is designed for travellers with an interest in astronomy, space exploration and science rather than strenuous physical activity. Most days involve several hours of sightseeing, museum visits and guided tours, with walking primarily on paved paths, within visitor centres and around observatory sites. There are a number of domestic flights and some longer coach journeys between destinations, particularly in New Mexico, but these are balanced with regular breaks and comfortable accommodation.

Optional evening stargazing sessions may involve standing outdoors for extended periods, often after dark, making the tour best suited to guests with a reasonable level of mobility and an enthusiasm for immersive scientific experiences.

Weather and stargazing conditions

Travelling in September offers generally favourable conditions across Florida, Texas and New Mexico, although weather can vary considerably between regions. Florida and Houston are typically warm, humid and can experience afternoon showers, while New Mexico is usually much drier, with warm daytime temperatures and cooler evenings at higher elevations.

September also offers excellent opportunities for stargazing, particularly in New Mexico's dark-sky locations, where low humidity and minimal light pollution can produce exceptionally clear night skies. However, astronomical viewing is always dependent on local weather conditions and cloud cover, so while several stargazing sessions are planned, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Solo travellers

All of our tours, cruises, expeditions and weekenders are perfect for solo travellers. If you want your own room, you will need to pay a solo supplement of £940. However, if you are happy to share a room with a fellow guest of the same sex, we will do all we can to match you with another guest so you don't have to pay the solo room supplement.
