THERE was good news for the ozone layer as the 150 countries that have
signed the Montreal Protocol met in Costa Rica earlier this week.
¾«¶«´«Ã½s told the meeting that if India, China, Brazil and Mexico were each
to use 22 000 fewer tonnes of CFCs per year, then the developing world as a
whole would meet its target of stabilising CFC consumption by 1999. Funding from
the developed world to help achieve the cuts was agreed this week.
