Are you a photic sneezer?

By Kat Austen

15 April 2009

In Why some people sneeze when the sun comes out, Richard Webb explores the mystery of “photic sneezing” 鈥 the way that some people sneeze when exposed to bright light.

Although many people can force or complete a sneeze by looking into bright light, for some it’s a reflex action. It’s not clear what makes these people different, and efforts to find out have been hampered by the lack of data. There just haven’t been many efforts to find photic sneezers.

Researcher Louis Pt谩膷ek would like to change that 鈥 and New 精东传媒 readers can help.

Pt谩膷ek has put together a short questionnaire that can help identify “true” photic sneezers. If you think you might be a photic sneezer 鈥 or even if you don’t 鈥 you can help the cause of sneeze research by downloading the questionnaire, completing it and following the simple instructions to return it to Pt谩膷ek. We’ll report back once the results are in.
